All those "New York is a hell-hole now" queens should watch this (also "Midnight Cowboy"). Gives you an idea what NYC was like in the early 70s. DeNiro was hot! The movie was shot on the Upper West Side.

It was mid-'70s (came out in '76), but yeah, New York was at its grittiest in the '70s.

Thought it's a must see so I watched it recently. Oh man that is one weird movie. The music totally annoying. Disappointing. Totally overrated.
