Some do. Most do not. Taxi drivers used to always do this but it’s becoming rare. Service has gone down the tubes.

[Quote]Should your Uber driver help with luggahe

He'll get a tip if he can spell it correctly.

by Anonymousreply 1July 17, 2022 4:56 PM

That is what the optional and variable tipping is about. Do you give a better tip if they handle your stuff?

by Anonymousreply 2July 17, 2022 4:57 PM

When I was young and sometimes had to take a taxi home from school, my mother told me to only tip if he opened the door for me. LOL!

I wouldn't tip if they didn't help - or I'd tip less. Of course you should ask.

by Anonymousreply 3July 17, 2022 4:59 PM

If a driver doesn't help with luggage, I lower the tip significantly.

Is luggahe some gaelic Celtic thing?

by Anonymousreply 5July 17, 2022 5:02 PM

Good question, OP. It's expected of taxi drivers, but with Uber drivers I'm never sure.

Another factor, taxi drivers are almost always men. Uber drivers are more evenly split, and a female is unlikely to lift your luggage.

I think it’s Spanish. “Lug-ah-hey.”

Are we paying them to drive us or not? That's all that matters. Why should these taxi services - and that's what they are - be treated with such privilege?

by Anonymousreply 8July 17, 2022 5:14 PM

Depends where they pick me up --crowded airport or street corner, it's just easier for me to throw the suitcase into the trunk so we don't block traffic.

I also suspect that old ladies get help with suitcases more often than I do

by Anonymousreply 9July 17, 2022 5:17 PM

Yes, they should, and for their own benefit, not just because it's the nice thing to do. Some people will just toss their luggage in, or drag it along, scratching or hitting shit. Smart drivers realize this and insist on putting the luggage in the vehicle.

by Anonymousreply 10July 17, 2022 5:25 PM

Unless you are disabled you should need any help with your luggage.

by Anonymousreply 11July 17, 2022 5:26 PM

Disabled or old or encumbered with little children, definitely - however, the drivers should probably realize it will affect their tips, no matter the fitness of the passengers. And driving all day is not good for you - getting up and doing a bit of lifting and moving about is good for the heart. (I'm only thinking of Uber drivers well-being, you see)

Should one offer one's hot Uber driver a blowjob?

by Anonymousreply 13July 17, 2022 6:22 PM

R13 Yeah but these days they all have dash cams that will record you propositioning for sex as an "offender"

by Anonymousreply 14July 17, 2022 7:12 PM

Why risk a back injury for a whole 3 dollars?

by Anonymousreply 16July 17, 2022 9:19 PM

R14 Goddamnit! You can't get away with anything these days.

by Anonymousreply 17July 17, 2022 9:31 PM

When setting up a ride with Lyft, there is a question that asks if you need help with luggage. I suppose if you answer yes, the driver will, indeed help you with your luggage.
