Prometheus was a great but underrated film. I'm still going with Aliens though.

Prometheus was one of the most dissapointing movies I've seen in a while. Aliens is my 3rd favorite movie ever. So...yeah, Aliens.

Aliens. I would write a comparison down,but Reelz made the point i would do with other words. "Prometheus" beats the first "Alien",tough.

Over the years, I've grown sort of bored with Aliens. It's still an icon in its genre, and no other movie has done "Guys with guns splattering yucky monsters" as well, except perhaps Starship Troopers. But it really does feel like 150 minutes of carnage or waiting for carnage. Prometheus had so much more vision.

ALIENS is pretty stupid. It's a great action film, one of the best thrill-rides I've ever been on, but it's completely braindead. PROMETHEUS is the companion film that ALIEN always needed. I, for one, think that the ALIEN sequels can be safely forgotten. PROMETHEUS and ALIEN are the only canonical entries, imo.

Prometheus is...eh. I think Prometheus...hm. I really don't know what to think about it. It is a beautiful movie, yet it also has forgetable dialogue. It has great tension, yet it also has dumb, stereotype characters making stupid decisions. Prometheus is the definition of a mixed bag: a lot of good stuff, but also a lot of bad stuff. I really liked it when I finished it a few hours ago, but the more I think about it now, the more I dislike it. Some things make absolutely no sense whatsoever, like how does David know what to do in EVERY situation he's in? Why is he evil? And how the f is it possible for Millburn and Fifield to get lost when both they AND the ship have not only a map but also their EXACT locations on that map. Egh. What a beautiful mess.

ALIENS Game Over Man Game Over. Both are great films and worth recommendations I actually think most of the questions people have about Prometheus but Aliens is just a great film. Where Alien was a horror film, Aliens was the war film it's a shame they couldn't keep the changing genre thing going for it.

I'm with Protozoid on this one. Just as both are chronologically on opposite sides of Alien, so too are they thematically different. If you look at the series as a Sci-Fi/Horror series, Alien takes the middle-ground of being a more or less straight up Sci-Fi/Horror, Aliens goes down the action route while Prometheus goes down the mystery route. Part of me hates to admit it since there is so much hatred for Prometheus out there, but I kind of like Prometheus a little better. I use to love Aliens when I was younger, but with all the imitations, parodies and copycats out there (take almost EVERY Sci-Fi/Horror shooter videogame which has been made since 1986), Aliens just feels a little stale now. Its hardcore fans really annoy me too, especially the way they can't handle any other Alien film made after Aliens, so they make up their own versions of Alien3 which are just unspeakably unimaginative, whimsical and stupid (the main reason why I have NO interest in Aliens:Colonial Marines, due out soon). I have a lot more respect for Prometheus in at least trying to create a smart R-rated Sci-Fi film for $130 million, which is something almost no-one would be willing to do nowadays with the current trend of Superhero films dominating the blockbuster market. Of course it doesn't always succeed, but I have much more emotional and intellectual investment in it. From a canon/intellectual perspective, Prometheus is also much closer to what was originally intended for Alien (eggs in pyramid, larger face-hugger etc) and there are a lot of things in Prometheus and Alien which aren't explained or implied and are consequently far more intriguing disturbing, such as the more complex Alien life-cycle. In Aliens, while the Alien Queen is a marvel of visual-effects and editing, the concept rather dumbs down the Alien to a simple, hierarchical creature which has very little intrigue or originality to it upon further viewing. So while Prometheus is a mixed bag and Aliens is one of the best sequels to any film, and has some good/iconic things about it which I do enjoy (mainly Ripley and some of the action), Prometheus just edges this one for being more interesting. But of course, neither compare to the original Alien.

I liked Prometheus, but overall it was disappointing. There is nothing disappointing about Aliens.

On the other hand, Aliens holds up a little better on repeat viewings. I still like Prometheus; certainly I don't think it's the antichrist of cinema as most people do, but the problems do become more pronounced after a while. Aliens has it's own problems as I have mentioned, but they distract less from the efforts of the film. So Aliens wins, if only because the extended cut is a significant improvement on the original; I need to see the extended cut of Prometheus before I can judge them both again, but my attitude may change yet again.

These are definitely my favorite films in the franchise since the original. The first time I watched Aliens I really didn't care for it, but now that I've rewatched it in the form of Cameron's director's cut, I've grown to have a new appreciation for it, especially the handling of Ripley's character arc. I still dislike the aliens being so easily killed, downgraded from an almost unbeatable threat to cannon fodder, but I guess I've come to accept that, along with other dumb things like the xenomorph queen operating an elevator and everyone not getting sucked out into space along with her. Of course, Prometheus has its share of dumbness as well, which others have catalogued better than I ever could. But I *like* the philosophical bent, even if it went a little too far in that direction, and Jon Spaihts' original script was a lot tighter than what Lindelof and Scott ended up coming up with. I'd also like to say that I think these two movies boast the strongest cast of characters in the franchise; while the original remains its crown jewel, I didn't really care for any of the characters in it aside from Ripley and the cat. As to this matchup, I'm sticking with Prometheus for now, but it's close, and I understand the appeal of Aliens much better than I used to.

Aliens is awesome, while Prometheus is just pretentious BS that thinks it's better then it is. Aliens wins 100%. Can't believe some people chose Pro over Aliens!
