Partner's grandson has no manners I love lunch at my partner's daughter house, but her 15-year-old son is frightful, I hate to say. No manners, no conversation: he slumps across the table looking sullen and gets up and down from the table.

He also scratches himself in the armpit blatantly.

He stomps his feet so hard the crockery shakes, and one time a picture fell off the wall.

One time outside he threw a water balloon at me, hard.

It casts tension over the occasion, especially for the daughter who makes faces at him and also me when she thinks I’m not looking.

One time he called our house and made a belching sound into the phone, and then he hung up,

No, he is not that hot at all. His face looks squished in, and his feet seem too big for his body.

My rude snobbish parents My boyfriend strongly dislikes my family and I don’t know what to do about it. He and I have been together for eight months now and I’ve really fallen for him. We have had in the past a great relationship, but there is this recurring problem to do with our different backgrounds. I come from a fairly well-off family and we’re very close. We’re not excessively wealthy, but we have been blessed with a comfortable upbringing. This is in stark contrast to my boyfriend’s family. They never had a lot of money, his parents went through an ugly divorce when he was growing up and now he doesn’t have a good relationship with them. My parents live abroad so my boyfriend has only met them twice, but both times we have travelled to see them and then stayed for a while, so it has been pretty intense for him. He felt like they snubbed him and micromanaged him, even to the point of insisting he not speak to the maids and to only use one of the downstairs guest bathrooms. My mother also constantly told him that his life was not interesting and was limited in scope. Since then he has admitted he just doesn’t like my parents. I love him and don’t want to lose him. I’m worried about how this could impact on our future.

Cruel sister in law My husband’s sister hasn’t liked me since the day we met. I’m not sure entirely why — if there’s a reason, neither my mother-in-law nor husband will admit to knowing it. I can only guess it’s jealousy that her brother got married first, our rushed engagement (I was pregnant), or that I’m not “fancy.” Me: jeans and dive bars. Her: designer dresses and elite schools. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, we are just very different!

Over the last four years I dismissed her insults and judgments and nose-wrinkling as her being immature, I’ve extended olive branches that were never returned, and now, finally, after her last round of texting my husband about what a bad person I am, I’m just done with her. I’ve never wronged her. I’ve never said anything bad about her.

She won’t stop though. I could go into detail about the crazy stuff she has done and said but it would take too long.
