People who put up inflatable Christmas decorations up are the types who drain pasta.

by Anonymousreply 1December 9, 2019 4:55 AM

Hate 'em. Only lazy, cheap, no class bastards display these ugly things. They scream 'white trash'.

by Anonymousreply 2December 9, 2019 4:57 AM

The worst.

And those projections on to the houses are pretty gross too.

by Anonymousreply 3December 9, 2019 5:01 AM

I like them. I wouldn’t want to see on on every yard, but one or two. I think they’re clever. Butvthen again, I liked the Charlie’s Angle Mocie, I thought that was clever too, so maybe I’m not the best judge of these things.

by Anonymousreply 4December 9, 2019 5:07 AM

^^^ What are you babbling about?

by Anonymousreply 5December 9, 2019 5:13 AM

I was tempted to buy the inflatable Christmas penguin at Aldi for $14, but thank God DL told me how to feel about inflatables before I went and became trash!

My neighborhood is FULL of them. They get all festive and turgid at sundown and stay up all night, then in the morning as I'm driving out of the neighborhood they're just lying flaccid on the ground like shriveled dicks or drive by victims in the cold light of day.

by Anonymousreply 7December 9, 2019 5:17 AM

I miss the vintage multi-color Christmas lights. They're a rarity to see nowadays.

Those huge bulbs. We had those on our Christmas tree.

by Anonymousreply 9December 9, 2019 5:26 AM

I guess people in the UK put up this vile crap too!!

Those are actually pretty good, R10, relative to the shit we have in the US right now. At least they're solid 24 hours a day. The things we have now are made out of nylon or something. In the evening, timers power on the fans that inflate the lighted Christmas figures. Before the sun comes up, the timers turn them off and they deflate into grotesque puddles on the lawn and stay that way all goddamned day until the evening timers come on again.

The ones in your picture are solid, hard plastic. They look "good" in the day or night. This inflatable shit we have now looks like a regular American gun massacre scene all day until the timers kick on and they bizarrely re-animate.

In my neighborhood, someone has this tacky thing. I don't know if it's an F U to the rest of the neighborhood because it gets crazy during the holidays with tourists or they're really this tacky.

R15 do you live in a trailer court?

by Anonymousreply 17December 9, 2019 6:59 AM

Brooklyn, R17. Believe it or not, my neighborhood is now a global tourist destination because the houses are so over-the-top during Christmas. We have cops everywhere and it's a nightmare to get home every night for several weeks. I noticed that hideous things about a week ago when I was going home.

There's a house in my hometown that has every inch of their house and front lawn illuminated with lights. They cover the windows and the grass with lights. Martha Stewart used to have annual Christmas Specials and this house was asked to be part of the next year's episode. The episodes were filmed in January/February and shown the following Christmas. The people redecorated their house a second time so they could appear in the next year's Martha special. That upcoming year there was no more Martha special due to her legal trouble.

This is like that shit-fest movie Deck the Halls come to life.

by Anonymousreply 21December 9, 2019 7:13 AM

It (inflatable decorations) does look cheap and tacky. But, there's always at least one neighbor who will do that.

by Anonymousreply 22December 9, 2019 7:15 AM

It's because people are sick of dealing with shitty Christmas lights that don't last.

by Anonymousreply 23December 9, 2019 8:41 AM

Are you saying inflatables last, R23?

by Anonymousreply 24December 9, 2019 8:51 AM

Did I ever tell DL this story?: I took my parents out to view Christmas lights, one evening. We picked up a carryout order at our favorite Chinese restaurant. I was the only one wearing street clothes: my Mom was in her nightgown and slippers, and Dad was in his jammies. Anyway, in the parking lot of the Chinese restaurant, while I was backing up, another person drove in and hit my bumper (not hard). The other person got out and insisted we exchange numbers, but I just yelled that we had Christmas lights to look at, and took off into the night. My Mom and Dad and I laughed and laughed, like we were bank robbers. We had a great time together that night. I would never put up one of those inflatable decorations, myself, but they don't really bother me. When all is said and done, I enjoy when people decorate for Christmas.

by Anonymousreply 25December 9, 2019 9:09 AM

I hate them. They're too tacky to look good, and they're not tacky enough to be fun in a kitschy way. They also strike me as lazy. If you're not going to put a decent effort in, then just don't do it.

by Anonymousreply 26December 9, 2019 10:47 AM

My husband really wanted a projector as part of our Christmas decorations and he mounted it to our mailbox post a few years ago. Within a week there was a terrible snowstorm and the city accidentally plowed into the mailbox. Projector bits everywhere! I was so happy...then I discovered the projector survived, the bastard.

Thankfully this year he is missing a part so it hasn't gone up.

by Anonymousreply 27December 9, 2019 11:05 AM

We have those lights on our bushes R8, but they break easily and the fuses blow out constantly. I love them but can see why people don't use them.

by Anonymousreply 28December 9, 2019 11:06 AM

I can imagine how those ugly things make your electric bill spike during December (even more than the lights). I've always respected people who understand that sometimes less is more and that having a plan before putting shit up is a necessity. I've yet to see one of those inflatables that look decent/classy.

by Anonymousreply 30December 9, 2019 7:29 PM

I guess people put them up for their kids' sake, but they still ain't pretty.

by Anonymousreply 31December 9, 2019 7:40 PM

R18, do you live in Dyker Heights?

by Anonymousreply 32December 9, 2019 7:45 PM

I don't mind them. They're only temporary and they provide some lightness to the rest of the boring, dreary winter.

by Anonymousreply 33December 9, 2019 8:04 PM

I can only imagine what DL thinks of outdoor Nativity scenes...

by Anonymousreply 37December 10, 2019 3:04 AM

I like the projections. So sue me.

by Anonymousreply 42December 10, 2019 10:17 PM

Around my house, so many people have those stupid inflatable decorations. Some have them on every inch of lawn space

It’s as if Christian threw up in their yards

by Anonymousreply 44December 10, 2019 10:36 PM

Those licensed character inflatables just add insult to injury. Those yellow pill-looking Disney bastards, what the fuck is Christmasy about that. Come to think of it,

I guess it's what Christmas is all about these days.
